The nationwide shortage of medical assistants (MAs) has significantly disrupted healthcare operations. To address this, AtlantiCare launched an MA apprenticeship program, successfully reducing vacancy rates from 28% to 6% in one year for an organization with more than 80 locations, 700,000 visits annually, and 200 MAs. This session will explore the workforce metrics, infrastructure support, regulatory requirements, and successful solutions that helped produce a 92% certification pass rate and an average voluntary turnover rate reduction to 1%.
The session will discuss education partnerships for a sustainable talent pipeline, and workforce engagement efforts including preceptor and superuser program opportunities. Participants will gain practical tools, such as program development checklists and go-live tools for a fully integrated MA training program.
